The aim of the M.Sc. programme is to provide practising engineers advanced and yet practical tools in the development, integration, and operation of computer-based control and automation systems. It is especially meant to provide specialised advanced tools to electrical engineers or those with equivalent qualification, who are working in an interdisciplinary area of computer-based control and automation systems.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
The requirements for the degree comprise either of the following two options: a) Coursework + Project/Dissertation Option, or b) Pure Coursework Option
a) Coursework + Project/Dissertation Option: Four core subjects, four electives and a project on which the candidate must submit a dissertation. The project is examined by dissertation, and may be undertaken either in NTU or in industry.
b) Pure Coursework Option: Four core subjects, five electives and an independent study module (EE6290).
The programme is run during evenings. The examinations will require attendance during office-hours. Part-time candidates are expected to obtain their employer’s permission for this before admission to the programme.
The minimum and maximum periods of candidature for a full-time candidate are one year and three years respectively. The minimum and maximum periods of candidature for a part-time candidate are two years and four years respectively.

EE6203 COMPUTER CONTROL SYSTEMS
Discrete-time system modelling and analysis. Cascade compensation. State-space design methods. Optimal control. Design and implementation of digital controllers.
EE6204 SYSTEMS ANALYSIS
Linear, dynamic and integer programming. Random processes. Queuing models. Optimization techniques. Markov decision process.
EE6205 REAL TIME & EMBEDDED SYSTEMS
Fundamentals of real time and embedded systems. Real time operating systems. Design methodologies. Development, debugging tools and programming languages. Reliability. Case studies and applications.
EE6290 INDEPENDENT STUDY
To undertake an independent in-depth study on an assigned topic under supervision.

Overview of robotics. Motion planning and control. Mobile robots. Controller hardware/software systems. Sensor systems and integration.
EE6222 MACHINE VISION
Fundamentals of Computer Vision. Feature Extraction Techniques. Object Recognition and Interpretation. Three Dimensional Computer Vision. Machine Vision Application.
EE6223 COMPUTER CONTROL NETWORKS
