CLINICAL APPLICATIONS OF DRAMATHERAPY: TALES FROM THE THERAPEUTIC SPACE
This seminar will introduce the UK version of Dramatherapy and in particular the ritual theatre-based form of Dramatherapy taught at Roehampton University, London. The seminar will provide a brief overview of the arts therapies in the UK and give some background to the professional training of Dramatherapists in particular.
It will illustrate the various clinical settings in which? Dramatherapists work, with a particular focus on the work of dramatherapists working with the mental health of children and young people in schools.
The seminar will include a short film exploring the relationships surrounding self harming behaviour. The audience will be invited to participate in a short discussion and practical exercise about the issues raised by the film. The seminar will be of interest to students and professionals involved with the treatment of mental and emotional health, who are interested in the potential of the arts, and drama in particular.? The seminar may? also be of particular relevance to students and others interested in working in mental health education with young people.????????

STRUCTURING A DRAMATHERAPY SESSION
This workshop is a practical workshop in which participants will be invited to take part in activities experientially, including role play, to illustrate the ways in which a Dramatherapy sessions are run. Structure in dramatherapy sessions supports the safe facilitation of clients or client groups through a therapeutic process. This workshop will introduce the idea of structure within a Dramatherapy session and invite participants to engage in examples of such structures drawn from clinical practice.
The workshop will be of use to people interested in exploring the potential of using the arts, and? drama and theatre in particular, to support working with vulnerable individuals and groups.?????????????

DEVELOPING A SELF-GENERATED MYTH
This workshop is a practical workshop in which participants will be invited to take part in activities experientially, including role play, to discover approaches to working with myth within Dramatherapy. Participants will be invited to take part in an explorative journey involving drama and the creative arts in which they will have the opportunity to develop their own personal myth as a vehicle for personal growth and self awareness.
Participants to bring along their own materials: A3/A4 paper, colour pens, wax crayons.
About the speaker:
MATTHEW TRUSTMAN is a Dramatherapist and senior lecturer in the Psychological Therapies department in Roehampton University where he supports Masters research in Dramatherapy as well as Dance and Movement Therapy. He has worked for the last five years as a Dramatherapist with adolescences, their families and teachers. He also works with a secondary school with young people excluded from schools due to emotional and behavioral difficulties. As a consultant and therapist within the corporate organisation field, his clients include employees from the financial services, central government and the manufacturing and service industries.
Matthew is currently undertaking research towards a PhD within the area of film and ethnography.
Dramatherapy is organised by LASALLE Professional Development Programme.
